Film Positives:
If you are sending your own film
positives, produce them "right side read, emulsion up". At least 2400
DPI is needed.
Underprinting:
SpeedBinder uses NorCote series 02 UV
cure inks. While these inks provide the best available opacity,
designers should be aware that the color of the underlying vinyl will
effect the apparent color of the imprint. This is particularly true
when printing a dark color (for example, Reflex Blue on black).
In cases like that, a white underprint
layer is advised. Underprint artwork should be sized at least 1 point
smaller than the overprint layer.
Trapping:
SpeedBinder prefers to apply trapping
to your files, as our needs are different from offset printing. If you
are going to submit film positives, a trap of 1 to 1.5 points should
be applied. Different colors which touch must have adequate trapping,
with the lighter color trapping under the darker colors.
Bleeds:
Edge bleeds should extend at least 1/4"
beyond the boundary of the product (refer to our templates for
dimensions).
Some imprint colors heat seal better
than others. In particular, colors with a high concentration of yellow
ink do not heat seal well. In general, the higher the level of
contrast between the print color and the substrate color, the higher
the chance that an unacceptable level of cracking (in hinges) or
chipping (on seams) will occur.
In some cases, a "near bleed" is
advised. In this case, the artwork will be run to 1/16" of the edge or
hinge. This creates most of the visual impact of an edge bleed, while
keeping the ink off of the heat seal boundary.
Line Screens:
A screen ruling of 65 or 85 lines with
a simple round dots is required when screen printing half-tones or
tints. SpeedBinder will make the final determination based on an
examination of your artwork.
